Center for Intercultural Dialogue and Translation
Overview
Areas of Practice
- Building a database about developments in Muslim-Christian relations, pluralism, based on English summaries of Egyptian media and own research, providing media critique when reporting on issues turns out to be inaccurate
- Promote Intercultural Dialogue
Project Delivery Approaches
Selection of Egyptian Arabic language media articles since 1997, summary translations for a Western audience to understand Egyptian points of view on issues reported, researching issues reported, providing media critique when needed, placing all these data in a database that needs to help researchers, journalists and others to have a more rapid understanding of contexts of issues reported in the media. We work with Egyptian and non-Egyptian student interns who collect data for placement online. Between 1997 and today we have brought over 40,000 articles and reports online. In 2016 we agreed to place data also in the EASY archive of DANS (http://www.dans.knaw.nl/en/front-page?set_language=en) for better access for researchers.
Many authors of books and articles have made use of our database, including several PhD students.[/restab]
