Sherry George Botros
About
Sherry is a Counseling Psychologist. She has an MA in Counseling Psychology from the American University in Cairo (AUC). She has more than 4 years of experience working with adolescences and young adults suffering with mental, emotional, cognitive or behavioral problems or disorders. She started her practicum experience with Save the Children and Care International, she performed counseling at various NGOs and counseling centers. She has worked at the Psychology Training Center in the AUC. Most of her experience there was focused on students, faculty members or alumni who were struggling with depression, anxiety, identity development, self esteem issues, stress and anger issues. Ms Botros has also worked over wider scale with Syrian and African Refugees to enhance advocacy and their human rights. She provided positive parenting programs for Syrian mothers, cultural engagement programs for families and youth resilience workshops for teenagers. Sherry volunteered in several NGOs including St Andrews and PSTIC to empower displaced individuals professionally and provided entrepreneurship and livelihood skills along with community cohesion activities.
Sherry believes in the power of counseling and community psychology to maintain a sustainable social change. Ms Botros believes in the collaborative work of the therapist with the client to discover the sense of self and individual’s real self. She has received intensive training and workshops on different psychotherapy approaches. She works using didactic approach according to the client’s needs, applying some humanistic, CBT, interpersonal cognitive behavioral therapy techniques with existential beliefs. With refugees and displaced, Sherry used NET and ACT approaches to deal with complex trauma and allow the healing process for PTSD. She designed and implemented school based prevention and intervention programs for young adults ranging between grade 8 through grade 12. The focus of the training has been on helping teens form their own identity, build healthy boundaries, and assertiveness skills.
