Samar Roushdy

7 years of experience in the democratization process especially in Africa and Arab regions
I started my career path under Cairo Institute for Human Rights Studies by facilitating “Summer School on Human Rights for Undergraduates 2011”, After that, I joined “Democracy Reporting International” (DRI) which was a newly established organization, I was hired as an administrative assistant, later I took additional tasks in following up media coverage for elections, prepare summary reports on election monitoring done by local organizations and finally I was responsible for doing a comparative research on parties programs.
Moreover, I worked as an Advocacy Officer under New Women Foundation; this project was funded by the Euro-Mediterranean for Human Rights, under this project I was responsible for different things concerning gender equality in Egypt, through this project we succeeded in establishing a National committee that gather NGOs and Governmental institutions to draft a strategy on combating violence against women. In addition, we implemented training workshops for media sector on gender mainstreaming especially for political coverage.
Since 2015, I started working at the League of Arab States as Population Policies Coordinator which is from my point of view was a great shift in career path. For different reasons, first I started to work on a policy level with countries, international organization and also NGOs organization in the Arab Region. I was able to resume LAS activities under the Euro-Mediterranean University on Youth and Global Citizenship after a stop for 3 years. In addition, I coordinated meetings between youth initiatives to establish National Youth Councils, Parliamentarians and Governmental Officials. This is a widely used model to organize youth participation and to enable them to reach decision makers.
