Arab Network for NGOs (Shabaka)
Overview
Arab Network for NGOs is a non-profit and non-governmental Arab developmental organization, which works under a permit by the Egyptian Ministry of Social Solidarity No. 59, to perform the organizations' activities according to the law No. 84 for the year 2002. Shabaka's headquarter is in Cairo, as agreed by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry and the Arab Network on June 8th, 2006
The establishment of the Arab Network for NGOs "Shabaka" was an initiative by HRH Prince Talal Bin Abdul Aziz and a culmination of AGFUND efforts in the field of supporting the Arab NGOs, which were starting to accumulate during the 1980s. He also has recommended the formation of "a follow up committee for NGOs" that aims to support cooperation and coordination among the Arab NGOs and enforcing its participation in the international and regional forums.
Shabaka Activities are;
- Training the employees of the Arab NGOs and building their abilities based on modern techniques.
- Bolstering the flow of knowledge, exchanging information and date about the issues of the Arab civil society.
- Increasing the networking opportunities among the Arab NGOs through making access to the opportunities of exchanging experience and success stories.
- Contribution in enforcing the international agenda for sustainable development for 2030.
- Contribution in creating policies and legislations that facilitate the NGOs' activities and provide the suitable environment for its work.
