The Dutch Minister of Infrastructure and Environment and the Egyptian Prime Minister discussed future cooperation between the two countries during a meeting held on November 3rd, 2014. The signed Memorandum Of Understanding sets the way forward for the next five years focusing on the fields of water management and irrigation, integrated coastal zone management, water supply and sanitation, agriculture and aquaculture, exchange expertise in the fields of climate change and maximizing the usage of water resources.
The water and waste water sector is gaining importance among donors and institutions working in Egypt, especially in the upcoming years, with an increased number of procurement notices forecasts focusing on water projects and funded by EuropeAid, USAID, and the African Water Facility. The emphasis would be on the management of water resources in an efficient way, reduction of water loss, as well as capacity building for the Holding Company for Water and Waste Water.
