Norwegian People Aid

Overview

Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA) is a politically independent humanitarian organization established in 1939 by the Norwegian Confederation of Trade Unions. Headquartered in Oslo, it functions as the labor movement’s solidarity organization and operates in more than 30 countries. NPA's overarching mission is to promote democratic, just, and safe societies through humanitarian relief, development work, and efforts to disarm and protect civilians from the dangers of explosive remnants of war.

One of NPA's most prominent areas of work is Mine Action and Disarmament. Since 1992, the organization has been a global leader in clearing landmines, cluster munitions, and other explosive remnants of war. Their work spans the entire life cycle of weapons and ammunition—from clearance and risk education to advocacy and policy reform. NPA has also been instrumental in international disarmament efforts, including the campaigns that led to the Mine Ban Treaty and the Convention on Cluster Munitions.
