Eleanor Rathbone Charitable Trust

Overview

Eleanor Rathbone Charitable Trust was created by Eleanor Rathbone who was the first woman to be elected to Liverpool City Council and represented Granby ward from 1909 to 1934. In 1929 she was elected as an independent MP and continued in this position until her death in 1946. She was associated with many campaigns for social reform, particularly on issues affecting women.

The Trust makes grants to support the work of overseas organisations. Its priorities include projects supporting women’s health and livelihoods, care and education of orphans, provision of clean water and sanitation and repairing damage caused in war and conflict. The priorities areas are: Sub-Saharan Africa, the Indian Sub-continent and Palestine.
