Qatar Research Development and Innovation Council (QRDI)
Overview
The Qatar Research, Development and Innovation (QRDI) Council—established in 2018—serves as Qatar’s central orchestrator of nationaal research, development, and innovation (RDI) strategy, governed under its QRDI 2030 framework, and aligned with the Qatar National Vision 2030 and national development plans. Its mission is to enhance Qatar’s resilience and long-term prosperity by transforming the country into a globally competitive hub for innovation, attracting top-tier international researchers, and integrating academia, industry, and government to deliver breakthrough solutions to national priority challenges.
QRDI steered the development of the QRDI 2030 Strategy, finalized in late 2019, which outlines seven ecosystem transformation pillars and five national RDI priority areas, informed by extensive stakeholder engagement and expert consultation. Its implementation structure includes a dedicated national research fund, strategic thematic research programs, and initiatives to support investigator-led and commissioned projects across public and private sectors.
