BOMA

Overview

BOMA works at the nexus of four of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals: ending poverty, eradicating hunger, combating gender inequality, and mitigating the effects of climate change. Focus on last mile populations of the drylands of Africa, who are most at risk to shocks from climate change and COVID-19, tech savvy and data driven approach, impressive graduation rate, and 99% local structure based in Kenya. BOMA is a Kenyan-based non-profit (also registered in the U.S.) that implements a time-bound graduation model (REAP) in six countries throughout the drylands of Africa. Through adapted programs that target women, children, climate-impacted communities, refugees and internally displaced populations, and youth, The aim is to build the resiliency of individuals and households living in extreme poverty so they can feed their children, pay for school fees and medical care, invest in families, and survive shocks such as drought or medical emergencies. Since 2009, BOMA has established 44,559 sustainable businesses and 6,461+ savings groups, enrolled 133,677 participants, and transformed the lives of over 804,000 people. Our goal is to scale our reach via government adoption to reach three million individuals by 2027.
