Refugees International

Overview

Refugees International is an independent, non-governmental organization founded in 1979 that advocates for the rights, protection, and well-being of refugees and displaced people worldwide. Headquartered in Washington, D.C., it conducts on-the-ground field investigations in crisis zones to identify urgent humanitarian needs and then uses its findings to influence policymakers, governments, and international agencies. The organization focuses on life-saving assistance, human rights, refugee protection, and long-term solutions to displacement. Known for its independence, it does not accept funding from governments or the UN, allowing it to maintain unbiased advocacy. Refugees International also emphasizes refugee-led leadership, supporting displaced community leaders to shape policy and amplify their own voices in global forums.
