Overview
The National Union of Tunisian Municipalities was established in 1976 with the aim of supporting the capacities of local administrations by developing municipal cooperation and decentralized cooperation. The National Union of Tunisian Cities approved its bylaws during the extraordinary general session on September 26-27, 2020, changing its name to the National Union of Tunisian Municipalities.
On December 2, 2023, the National Union of Tunisian Municipalities held an extraordinary general session to amend the bylaws. An electoral general session was held during which a new management body for the union was elected, consisting of general secretaries and those in charge of managing municipal affairs, as the legal representatives of municipalities in accordance with the provisions of Decree No. 9 of 2023 dated March 8, 2023, relating to the dissolution of municipal councils.
