The African Middle Eastern Leadership Project – AMEL

Overview

The African Middle Eastern Leadership Project (AMEL) mobilizes, empowers, and unites young civic leaders from Africa and the Middle East to build resilient, inclusive societies free from discrimination, persecution, and coercion. At its core lies the AMEL Institute, a comprehensive online academy offering free, interactive training for activists aged 18–35. Launched in 2019, it covers essential topics—human rights, gender equity, activist safety and self-care, genocide prevention, democratic development, nonviolent movements, peacebuilding, conflict resolution, and communications—through a regional track and tailored national programs like Sudan Democracy Action. AMEL also spearheads Issue Education efforts, engaging at high international levels to share critical insights on civic movements, youth empowerment, conflict transformation, and Red Sea security, bridging young MEA activists with global decision-makers. Through its Research initiatives, AMEL mentors activists to produce evidence-based reports on human rights, democracy, and conflict—beginning with Sudan-focused studies by inaugural researchers and expanding regionally. Finally, AMEL cultivates allyship and incubates new projects via programs like the AMEL Speakers Bureau and the Inter‑Jewish Muslim Alliance, fostering cross-border understanding, digital privacy training, leadership development, and inclusive public storytelling.
