Centre for Humanitarian Leadership

Overview

The Centre for Humanitarian Leadership (CHL) is a globally recognized organization dedicated to transforming the humanitarian sector through leadership development, research, and advocacy. Formed as a partnership between Deakin University in Australia and Save the Children Australia, CHL’s mission is to redefine what effective leadership means in the context of humanitarian response. By integrating academic rigor with practical experience, the Centre equips individuals and organizations to navigate complex crises with compassion, innovation, and effectiveness.

At the heart of CHL’s work is its commitment to inclusive and equitable leadership. The Centre actively challenges traditional power dynamics in the humanitarian system by centering the voices of crisis-affected communities. Through its programming, CHL aims to redistribute influence within the sector, ensuring that leadership is informed by local knowledge and grounded in social justice. This approach is particularly relevant in today’s era of polycrisis, where humanitarian leaders must respond to intersecting challenges such as conflict, climate change, and global health emergencies.
