The National Agency for Research and Development

Overview

The National Agency for Research and Development (ANCD or NARD) is a central administrative authority of the Government of the Republic of Moldova, established in 2018. It was created as the successor to several institutions previously operating under the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, including the Center of International Projects, the Agency for Innovation and Technology Transfer, and the Agency for Research and Development. The agency’s mission is to implement and manage national policies in research, innovation, and development while strengthening Moldova’s integration into European and international research frameworks. NARD provides competitive funding for research, innovation, and technology transfer projects and facilitates collaboration through public–public and public–private partnerships, brokerage events, and matchmaking opportunities. It also supports Moldovan researchers’ participation in European programs such as Horizon 2020, COSME, Erasmus+, and the Danube Transnational Programme, and coordinates the Moldovan Office for Science and Technology in Brussels. Beyond funding, the agency promotes researcher mobility, fosters engagement with the Moldovan scientific diaspora, and helps align national research practices with the European Research Area, while also supporting SMEs in expanding internationally through the Enterprise Europe Network.
