The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is supporting Egypt’s renewable energy goals with new funding for a 200 MW wind farm in Ras Ghareb. The Bank is providing US$74.1 million, including loans and grants from partners such as the Green Climate Fund, JICA, and Proparco.

Construction will begin soon, and once complete, the project will help Egypt reach its target of 10 GW of renewable energy by 2028 under the NWFE initiative. The wind farm is expected to cut 390,000 tonnes of CO₂ each year and will also offer training and internship opportunities for young engineers, with a focus on women.

The project is being developed by Infinity Power and Masdar, Africa’s largest renewable energy company, which already runs solar and wind projects across Egypt, Senegal, and South Africa.

Since 2012, the EBRD has invested more than €13.5 billion in Egypt across infrastructure, finance, agribusiness, and clean energy, reinforcing its role as a key development partner for the country.
