Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives has resumed AED43 million in food aid to Gaza in partnership with the UN World Food Programme.
DUBAI: The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI) has resumed the delivery of AED43 million worth of food aid to the Gaza Strip, in partnership with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP). The renewed convoys are providing essential food parcels and relief supplies to the most vulnerable families, following the reopening of Gaza’s border crossings.
Acting on the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, this latest initiative is part of the UAE’s ongoing humanitarian support for Gaza by land, sea, and air. The resumed assistance builds on the commitment made in January 2024 by MBRGI to support one million Gazans with AED43 million (US$11.7 million) in direct food aid.
The initiative adds to MBRGI’s long-standing legacy of regional and global humanitarian efforts. In 2023, His Highness directed urgent assistance worth AED50 million to the Palestinian people. In a related effort, Dubai Humanitarian delivered a shipment of 71.6 tons of vital medical supplies to Gaza through Egypt’s El Arish port in September 2024.
Additionally, MBRGI pledged AED37 million (US$10 million) in early 2024 to support Gaza’s healthcare sector, with a special focus on children’s medical needs. These contributions form part of a broader mission to provide critical aid to underserved communities worldwide.
Samer AbdelJaber, WFP Regional Director for the Middle East, North Africa, and Eastern Europe, said: “The partnership between MBRGI and WFP embodies a shared commitment to providing food assistance and alleviating suffering for communities worldwide. These actions underscore MBRGI’s dedication to making a real difference in Gaza.”
As the region’s largest foundation of its kind, MBRGI invested over AED2.2 billion in 2024 alone, reaching approximately 149 million people across 118 countries. The foundation’s work spans five core pillars: Humanitarian Aid & Relief, Healthcare & Disease Control, Spreading Education & Knowledge, Innovation & Entrepreneurship, and Empowering Communities.
Under the Humanitarian Aid & Relief pillar, MBRGI spent AED944 million, benefiting more than 37 million people. Since its launch in 2015, MBRGI has united over 30 initiatives and institutions under one umbrella to address global challenges, alleviate poverty, and foster human development through education and social empowerment.
