International Eye Foundation

Overview

The International Eye Foundation (IEF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preventing blindness and improving eye health in developing countries. It primarily implements programs rather than just providing funds. IEF works directly with local eye hospitals and clinics to strengthen their management systems, improve efficiency, ensure financial sustainability, and enhance the quality of care. Its programs include onchocerciasis (river blindness) control, where it supports drug distribution and coordination with national health authorities, and child blindness prevention, where it has served as a technical advisor for large initiatives such as the USAID Child Blindness Program. Through technical assistance, training, and strategic investments, IEF helps build self-sustaining, high-quality eye care systems that can continue serving communities long-term.
