Amman — The Green Climate Fund (GCF) has announced its support for Jordan’s $6 billion desalination project, aimed at strengthening water security and addressing the impacts of climate change.
The project seeks to desalinate water and distribute it across the Kingdom’s governorates to meet rising demand amid growing water scarcity.
Funding the Green Climate Fund will contribute to reducing the cost of water by about 10 cents per liter, and will help the Jordanian government to save $1 billion over the project implementation period," Reuters quoted an official who was the senior participant in the project.
Jordan is among the world’s most water-poor countries, and this project is expected to secure a sustainable water source, support the green economy, and create new job opportunities.
The Green Climate Fund’s support marks an important step in strengthening international cooperation for financing sustainable infrastructure projects and positioning Jordan as a regional model for climate resilience.
