European Investment Fund

Overview

The European Investment Fund (EIF) is a specialist arm of the European Investment Bank Group focused on supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) across Europe. Its primary role is to improve access to finance for these businesses by providing venture capital, guarantees, and other risk-sharing instruments. Unlike the EIB, which mainly finances large infrastructure and development projects, the EIF targets innovative startups and growing companies, helping them attract investment and expand. By working through financial intermediaries such as banks and venture capital funds, the EIF enables SMEs to obtain the funding they need while fostering entrepreneurship, innovation, and job creation throughout the EU.
