Germany is increasing its support to the people of the Gaza Strip with a new dual-track assistance package for immediate help and long-term rebuilding.
As for relief, the BMZ (German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development) is sending modular temporary shelters for the the most affected families in Gaza. Furthermore, Germany is going to assist with water-pipe repairs, schools, cash-for-work programmes and WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene) measures as part of an “Early Recovery” when a permanent ceasefire is declared.
Meanwhile, Minister Reem Alabali Radovan is carrying out a diplomatic mission to Israel, the Palestinian Territories, Jordan and Saudi Arabia, aiming at reconciling differences and obtaining international support for Gaza's long-term rebuilding. She underlined that the Palestinians should be the ones to decide the future of Gaza, and the process of rebuilding would take decades and require worldwide collaboration.
Germany made it clear that the first priority is relief, but its efforts will gradually turn to housing solutions, electricity and water infrastructure, education and health sectors as soon as conditions allow.
