Oxfam Sweden
Overview
Oxfam Sweden is the Swedish branch of the global Oxfam confederation, an international organization dedicated to combating poverty, inequality, and injustice worldwide. It operates as part of a network active in about 77 countries, working toward a world where everyone’s rights and dignity are respected. The organization focuses on addressing the root causes of poverty, including economic inequality, climate inequality, unfair trade systems, and human rights abuses. Oxfam Sweden engages in advocacy and research to influence policymakers, provides humanitarian aid in crises, and supports on-the-ground projects that improve livelihoods, secure rights, and help communities adapt to climate impacts. Guided by human rights principles and informed by feminist and decolonial perspectives, it emphasizes solidarity, inclusion, responsibility, and diversity. The Swedish office, established in 2014 with headquarters in Stockholm and additional offices in Malmö and Gothenburg, raises funds in Sweden to support both immediate humanitarian efforts and long-term poverty reduction programs globally. As part of the Oxfam confederation, which began in 1942 as the Oxford Committee for Famine Relief, Oxfam Sweden contributes to a worldwide mission of promoting social and economic justice.
