Bishopric of Public Ecumenical and Social Services (BLESS)

Overview

The Bishopric of Public, Ecumenical and Social Services (BLESS) is the social development arm of the Coptic Orthodox Church in Egypt, established by papal decree in 1962 with a mission to serve marginalized and underprivileged communities across the country. BLESS focuses on community development, charity, and strengthening ecumenical relations, offering a wide range of services in both urban and rural areas through its two main departments: the Aghapy Program (charitable services) and the BLESS Sustainable Development Programs (BSDP), which emphasize health, education, gender equality, economic inclusion, and environmental sustainability. Over the decades it has expanded its reach to dozens of dioceses, partnering with national and international organizations to support Egypt’s development strategies while promoting human dignity, resilience, and social equity among all people.
