Since early March, more than 517,000 people have fled their homes, creating a severe humanitarian crisis in Lebanon. The situation isnt getting any easier and despite efforts by the government and UN organisations to ensure safety, the current situation is becoming more dangerous. While many families are still looking for a safe place to stay, thousands of families are currently residing in emergency shelters.

According to the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), only 14% of its operations in Lebanon are funded. A total of $472.3 million will be needed in order to provide vital assistance. Without this additional funding, the organization will soon run out of necessities for the hundreds of thousands of recently displaced people, such as blankets and mattresses.

UNHCR is now requesting flexible funding and immediate international assistance to enable them to take prompt action. More funding would enable them to repair more shelters and offer life-saving support as the situation develops. However for now, the emphasis is still on making sure that all displaced people can find safety and assistance.

UNHCR has begun providing $150 emergency cash grants to the most vulnerable families in order to provide immediate assistance. However, there are currently very few resources available, and many programs, such as child protection and mental health support, are in danger of ceasing
