Hundreds of thousands of people have been forced to leave their homes and seek refuge in schools and other public buildings as the violence in southern Lebanon and some areas of Beirut is becoming increasingly more dangerous. After long travels, many families arrived with very few possessions. The overcrowding of both the shelters and hospitals is raising health and safety risks, especially for women and girls.

In order to assist those communities, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is growing its humanitarian response. Due to the violence, many medical facilities have been closed or understaffed, so mobile medical units have been sent out all over the nation to provide vital services. These teams consist of physicians, nurses, and social workers who provide basic medical consultations, emergency obstetric support, and maternal healthcare.

Another important goal for this aid is the help women and girls, especial in those overcrowded shelters. Survivors of gender-based violence are receiving services from humanitarian partners, such as private support and healthcare. Additionally, information sessions are being held to increase awareness of available services and protection.

Additionally, displaced families are receiving necessary supplies. These include baby kits for expectant mothers and new mothers, as well as hygiene kits containing hygiene and menstrual products. The UNFPA hopes to guarantee that women and girls continue to receive vital care and protection throughout the ongoing crisis
