The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Government of Italy have reached and signed a €3 million agreement that will help with the reconstruction of Gaza. The goal of this agreement is to enable civilians who were displaced from their homes to return back safely by rebuilding destroyed houses.
Those funds will repair 663 damaged houses, which support approximately 3,978 people who had to leave their homes. The improvement of the living conditions of those people will enable them to somewhat go back and lead a normal life and give an opportunity to them to stand back up on their feet.
Not only does the project include repairing damaged homes, it also includes improving services to that area and providing help for all the residents in those neighborhoods, creating a sense of community in that everyone is recovering together, not just one household. Mr. Jaco Cilliers, UNDP Special Representative of the Administrator, said: “This agreement reflects UNDP’s commitment to delivering recovery at scale through an integrated, neighborhood-based approach that links immediate needs with longer-term resilience.”
