A global conference was held in Berlin and the main goal was to raise over US $1.5 billion to assist with the catastrophic humanitarian crisis associated with the ongoing war in Sudan. All major nations of the world have made financial commitments to help ease the widespread hunger and displacement within Sudan due to the war as a result of the pledges made by world leaders and global organizations at the summit. Some fo the major Global organziations that particpated include: The United nations, European Union, African Union, Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), and The League of Arab States.

In addition to the substantial financial commitments made in Berlin, civil society groups in Sudan are requesting a more active role in deciding the future of their country. More than 100 independent Sudanese organizations have organized a shared letter to the world leaders requesting peace processes to stop focusing solely on military actors.

Local leaders demand that women and youth participate equally in peace talks to ensure the results are equal and everyone is getting a say. They also call for the protection of aid workers and the removal of barriers to ensure the Berlin funds reach the vulnerable without being blocked or politicized.

But the success this conference depends on both the delivery of aid and a unified political process. Civil society groups are pushing for international mediators to coordinate better and and treat civilian imput as a priority.
