With Morocco committing an additional €6.6 million to extend the PRIMA initiative through 2027, the partnership between the EU and Morocco has launched into a new chapter of collaboration to address some of the most critical challenges in the Mediterranean region. It is evident that these two areas see scientific cooperation as essential to achieving stability in the Mediterranean region.
As one of the largest contributors to PRIMA since its inception, Morocco has played a pivotal role in over half of every PRIMA project since 2018. By investing nearly €26 million in collaborative research to date, Moroccan scientists have significantly impacted the way we will manage our future food and water resources.
The extension of PRIMA continues that trajectory and reinforces the role of Moroccan scientists as experts in the effort to combat climate change and resource scarcity on an international level.
The next phase of PRIMA is intended to transform applied technical research into resilience in practice. By developing sustainable agriculture systems and agricultural food systems, the agreement enables Moroccan innovators with the funding and access to global networks necessary to implement their innovations.
This phase of PRIMA moves outside the laboratory and provides a viable roadmap for protecting our environment and increasing the overall economic potential of the Mediterranean basin.
