Samia Archella
About
I am an international development professional with 19 years of experience. Before moving into consultancy, I spent eight years advancing gender equality, women’s economic empowerment, formalization, and decent work across North Africa and the Middle East. Through my long-standing work with the International Labour Organization (ILO), I built a strong track record in project management, monitoring and evaluation, policy support, and capacity building.
I served as Project Technical Officer for the regional ILO–EU-funded project Social Dialogue for Formalization and Employability (SOLIFEM), based in Algeria. In this role, I provided technical assistance on formalization, social dialogue, and skills development in selected sectors, including agriculture, to national partners in Algeria, Egypt, Lebanon, and the Occupied Palestinian Territory. I also led project implementation, reporting, and monitoring and evaluation.
Previously, I was the National Project Coordinator, managing SOLIFEM project in Egypt, where I co-designed a series of national trainings on formalization, the roles of workers’ and employers’ organizations, and social dialogue. My earlier work included leading capacity-building initiatives on gender-responsive labour inspection that led to the establishment of the Gender and Non-Discrimination Unit at the Ministry of Labour, rolling out financial education programmes for women and supporting the development of the National Action Plan on gender equality at work in Egypt.
I began my career at the Canadian International Development Agency in Egypt and then in the ILO Cairo Office, where I held several programme and administrative roles between 2006 and 2017. I hold a master’s degree in international relations from the French University in Egypt and I am fluent in Arabic, English, and French, with working knowledge of Spanish.
I completed numerous training courses on project cycle management, M&E, theory of change, participatory gender audit, industrial relations and responsible business conduct.
My work is driven by a commitment to inclusive development, institutional strengthening, and expanding access to decent work for vulnerable groups.
