As conflict and displacement continue in Lebanon, many pregnant women are struggling to stay safe while preparing to give birth. According to the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), thousands of women have been forced to leave their homes and live in temporary shelters with limited healthcare.
One woman, Rima, fled southern Lebanon while seven months pregnant. Her journey lasted more than 16 hours, and she feared giving birth on the road without medical help. After reaching safety, she lost access to her regular doctor and had no baby supplies for her child.
UNFPA estimates that around 13,500 displaced women in Lebanon are currently pregnant. Many hospitals are overcrowded or damaged, making it harder for women to receive the care they need. Poor living conditions in shelters also increase health risks for mothers and newborn babies.
Despite these challenges, aid groups continue to provide medical support and essential supplies. Many mothers say their biggest hope is to give birth safely and raise their children in a more peaceful future.
