In northern Syria, many families in refugee camps are struggling to survive with very little food, money, and stability.Life has become extremely difficult and even basic needs like food and education very hard to find.

One example is the family of 40-year-old Um Ahmad, a mother of four living in a crowded camp in rural Idlib. Like others, her family was forced to leave their home in rural Aleppo because of the war. They moved from place to place, hoping for safety, but each time they move from one area to another, life gets harder and harder.

Today, the family depends on limited humanitarian aid and small daily work to survive. Most of the time, they barely manage to eat one meal a day. When food assistance ends each month, hunger quickly returns, and they are forced to reduce portions they eat or they go without food.

Children in the camp are especially affected. Many are weak, and school is no longer a normal part of life. Um Ahmad’s son, Omar, has not been to school for nearly two years and spends his days in the camp instead of learning in a classroom.
