The African Development Bank (AfDB) and the World Food Programme (WFP) have launched a new $87 million project to support farmers and improve food production in Sudan. The four-year project, known as BOOST, aims to help communities recover from conflict and strengthen the country's food system.

This project will reach out to more than 230,000 farmers in Sennar and Blue Nile, providing resources to help them increase food production, reduce losses after harvest, increase their income, and gain better access to local markets.

By the end of the project, nearly 1 million metric tons of cereal and pulse crops are expected to be produced, enough to feed nearly 9 million people with cereal and provide enough pulses for more than 15 million people.

With more than 19 million people in Sudan suffering from hunger, the project will also provide training for farmers and support for small agricultural businesses and farmer groups.

AfDB and WFP said the investment is part of a wider effort to move beyond emergency aid and support long-term recovery. Since 2023, the two organizations have invested $267 million in resilience and agricultural programmes across Sudan, helping communities strengthen their livelihoods and prepare for future challenges.
