GODAN
Overview
Global Open Data for Agriculture and Nutrition (GODAN) is an international initiative established in 2013 to promote the proactive sharing of open data in agriculture and nutrition. The organization aims to make agricultural and nutritional data available, accessible, and usable to address the urgent challenges of ensuring global food security and achieving Sustainable Development Goal 2: Zero Hunger. GODAN brings together over 500 partners, including governments, international organizations, and private sector entities, to advocate for open data policies and practices that enhance transparency, innovation, and decision-making in the agri-food sector. GODAN's approach focuses on integrating open data with youth-led innovation and inclusive digital infrastructure to transform food systems. The organization supports various initiatives such as the AgroEcological Enterprise (GAEE) and the iFoodSOS platform, which leverage open data to promote sustainable agricultural practices, improve nutrition, and enhance climate resilience. Through these efforts, GODAN aims to empower local communities, particularly in the Global South, by providing tools and frameworks that enable data-driven decision-making and foster local ownership of food systems.
