Education Cannot Wait (ECW), the global fund for education in crises, has announced a new USD 22 million multi-year investment to restore safe and inclusive learning for nearly 200,000 crisis-affected children and adolescents in Sudan. Announced on August 24, 2026, in Geneva, the funding addresses the massive educational disruption caused by more than three years of armed conflict and displacement.

Since the outbreak of war in April 2023, many people have had to run from their homes, leading to the situation in which 8 million school-aged children cannot attend classes. The program, lasting for three years, aims to restore the education in Sudan by establishing secure study fields, offering psychological help, and preparing specialists in teaching.

The program pays attention to the vulnerable layer of society, with up to 60% of the participants being women and 10% people with disabilities. The implementation is done by organizations such as Save the Children and Plan International along with the local and global partners.
