Pax for peace
Overview
PAX for Peace—commonly known simply as PAX—is the Netherlands’ largest peace organization, with roots stretching back over 75 years. It was officially established in 2006 through the merger of Pax Christi Netherlands and the Interchurch Peace Council (IKV). Guided by Christian values such as human dignity and solidarity, PAX operates independently of political interests, supported by a broad network of volunteers, civil society organizations, churches, and local actors in conflict zones.
PAX works globally to protect civilians from the impact of war, end armed conflict, and promote sustainable peace. It focuses on transforming conflicts through dialogue and trust-building, advocating for social justice and systemic change, and enabling inclusive participation in decision-making processes. The organization is also known for its contribution to the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN), which was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2017.
