VNG International

Overview

VNG International is the international cooperation agency of the Association of Netherlands Municipalities (Vereniging van Nederlandse Gemeenten – VNG). It focuses on strengthening local governance and supporting decentralization processes worldwide. By working with local and national governments, NGOs, and international organizations, VNG International aims to improve governance, service delivery, and public administration. Their key areas of work include decentralization, local governance, public service delivery, democracy, citizen participation, and post-conflict reconstruction. They help municipalities enhance essential services such as water, sanitation, and waste management while also promoting transparency, accountability, and community engagement. Additionally, they support the rebuilding of local institutions in fragile states. Operating globally, VNG International is active in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East, often collaborating with major international partners like the European Union (EU), United Nations (UN), and World Bank to implement development programs.
