Swiss Academy for Development
Overview
The Swiss Academy for Development (SA4D) is a non-profit foundation established in 1991 in Biel/Bienne, Switzerland, dedicated to empowering disadvantaged children and young people both internationally and locally. SA4D employs an innovative “sport & play” approach to foster holistic development—supporting health, education, employment, social cohesion, and environmental stewardship—all aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Through playful, structured activities, the organization helps participants gain vital life skills, boost self-esteem, and build resilience.
SA4D operates through local partnerships and a strong emphasis on monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL). Their interventions are participatory, inclusive, and adapted to each context, ensuring local ownership and sustainability. With over three decades of work, they’ve implemented more than 100 projects across Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East—ranging from early childhood development in India to agroforestry initiatives empowering girls in Zimbabwe.
