Belgium Embassy

Overview

Belgian development cooperation sets out to achieve its objectives by concluding various partnerships: with governments in developing countries and other donors present in the partner countries (governmental cooperation), with non-governmental actors in Belgium and its partner countries (through NGOs, universities and community-based organisations) and with multilateral organisations. On top of this, Belgian development cooperation also funds a number of special programmes with different partners, including emergency aid, food aid and the Belgian Fund for Food Security. Belgian Development Cooperation allocates €1.5milion to focus on humanitarian aid and on conflict, fragility and transition projects.

Belgian development cooperation helps to improve living conditions for the populations of developing countries, their socio-economic and cultural development and fair and sustainable economic growth that respects human dignity, the rule of law, fundamental freedoms, gender equality and human rights. It supports the development and poverty reduction work carried out by the stakeholders in developing countries in synergy with the other Belgian and international donors and partners.
