Bloomberg Philanthropies

Overview

Bloomberg Philanthropies is the umbrella organization for the charitable giving of Michael R. Bloomberg, combining his personal, corporate, and foundation philanthropy, and it also includes Bloomberg Associates, a pro bono consultancy that advises cities. Its mission is to ensure better, longer lives for the greatest number of people by directing resources toward five key programmatic areas: public health, the environment, education, government innovation, and the arts.

Operating globally, Bloomberg Philanthropies works in over 700 cities across 150 countries. In 2024 alone, it invested approximately $3.7 billion in its initiatives. The organization’s approach emphasizes identifying unmet needs, partnering with strong organizations, remaining flexible in strategy, relying heavily on data and evidence, and focusing on cities as crucial sites for innovation and implementation.
