Overview

The Federal Ministry for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs (BMEIA) is Austria’s foreign ministry, responsible for shaping and implementing the country’s foreign policy, European integration, and international development cooperation. Headquartered in Vienna, it represents Austria abroad through embassies and consulates, manages diplomatic relations, and safeguards the interests of Austrian citizens worldwide. The ministry oversees Austria’s engagement within the European Union, promotes peace and security, and advances dialogue with international and regional partners. It also directs Austria’s development cooperation, mainly carried out by the Austrian Development Agency (ADA), focusing on humanitarian aid, sustainable development, and migration partnerships. In addition, BMEIA fosters cultural diplomacy, supports integration policies, and strengthens Austria’s role as a bridge between regions and cultures.
