The Binational Fulbright Commission in Egypt
Overview
The Binational Fulbright Commission in Egypt (BFCE) is the oldest and largest Fulbright program in the Arab world, established in 1949 through a bilateral agreement between the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the U.S. Department of State. Its mission is to promote mutual understanding between the peoples of Egypt and the United States through high-impact academic and cultural exchange. Guided by the vision of Senator J. William Fulbright, the Commission believes in transforming diplomacy through person-to-person educational experiences.
BFCE administers a wide range of programs for Egyptian nationals. These include scholarships for master’s degrees in the U.S., Ph.D. joint supervision programs allowing students to complete research with American co-supervisors, and research opportunities for visiting doctoral students. In addition to academic grants, Fulbright Egypt offers fellowships in fields such as the arts, Islamic studies, heritage preservation, and business administration. Professional development programs are also available, such as the prestigious Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship, designed for mid-career professionals to gain practical, non-degree experience in the U.S.
