UNFPA
Overview
UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund, is the lead UN agency for delivering a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every birth is safe, and every young person's potential is fulfilled. UNFPA expands the possibilities for women and young people to lead healthy and productive lives. Since its creation in 1969, UNFPA has been working for the right to health and equal opportunities for everyone, women, men, teenagers and children. UNFPA provides support to countries and improves national systems of population data to map inequalities and address them.
UNFPA thus shares the vision outlined in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Its approach will focus on three transformative, people-centered outcomes in the period to 2030:
- Elimination of preventable maternal deaths;
- Elimination of unmet need for family planning;
- Elimination of gender-based violence and harmful practices, including female genital mutilation and child marriage, early or forced.
