Unilever

Overview

Unilever’s sustainability strategy is positioned as a core part of its business, not just a CSR activity. The company focuses on four priority areas: climate, nature, plastics, and livelihoods. Its climate goals include reaching net-zero emissions across the entire value chain by 2039, while in nature it aims to expand regenerative agriculture, protect and restore natural ecosystems, and improve water stewardship. Unilever is also heavily engaged in reducing plastic pollution through cutting virgin plastic use, increasing recycled content, and making all packaging reusable, recyclable, or compostable within set timelines. In livelihoods, the company works to support smallholder farmers, promote fair compensation in its supply chain, and help millions of small retailers grow their businesses. These ambitions are backed by a multiyear investment fund for climate and nature initiatives. While Unilever maintains extensive commitments, some goals have been adjusted in response to operational and market challenges, drawing attention to the balance between sustainability ambitions and practical implementation.
