Ahmed Guerfel

Ahmed Guerfel is a Tunisian multidisciplinary artist, curator, and cultural manager, as well as a researcher in cultural ecosystems exploring the interplay between structure and vitality. Over 15 years, his work has spearheaded a movement for cultural decentralization across the Global South, positioning periphery territories as vital epicenters of contemporary artistic innovation and collective resilience. He is the founder of Southern Tunisia’s first integrated independent cultural infrastructure, an ecosystem comprising the organization Danseurs Citoyens Sud (DCS), the pilot cultural center No Name A.S.L, the artistic residency D'arts & D'histoires, and specialized platforms dedicated to production, showcase, distribution, and creative mentorship.

Rooted in the exploration of the body as a site of liberation, social transformation, and bodily memory, his practice conceptualizes cultural institutions as living, regenerative organisms. Moving beyond traditional paradigms of sustainability, he draws inspiration from organic networks and bioregional dynamics to construct self-renewing, community-grounded cultural models. As a co-founder of a regional coalition supporting independent Arab cultural entities, Guerfel has led 35+ national initiatives and 12+ international collaborations across the MENA region, Europe, and the United States.

His work bridges artistic curation with strategic leadership, focusing on institutional governance, sustainable resourcing models, public space transformation, and cross-border partnership networks for independent cultural operators.  He has successfully secured over €3 million in funding for civil society initiatives and built strong partnerships that promote inclusive and community-centered cultural engagement.
