Benjamin Fève is a senior consultant and researcher specializing in Syria's political economy, economic governance, sanctions, investment environment, banking sector, and post-conflict recovery, with close to six years of dedicated experience on the Syrian and Lebanese files. He currently serves as Senior Consultant at Karam Shaar Advisory Ltd. and as Founder/Editor of The Syria Dispatch, an independent publication tracking Syria's post-Assad economic and political transition, while co-leading Syria in Figures, a flagship monthly publication widely used by policymakers, diplomats, humanitarian actors, and researchers.

He has led and contributed to research, advisory, and technical assistance projects for a broad range of governments, international organizations, donors, financial institutions, and NGOs, including the German Federal Foreign Office, the World Bank, the U.S. Department of State, UNICEF, UNDP, and USAID. His work spans institutional assessments, sanctions and compliance analysis, banking-sector due diligence, investment climate research, and policy advisory, combining field research in Syria, Lebanon, and Türkiye with stakeholder interviews, risk assessment, and client-facing reporting.

Notable engagements include leading the preparation of a U.S. Department of State-commissioned investor handbook and sector guides for Syria; directing a multi-phase due diligence and capacity assessment of 15 Syrian private banks for a Western government client, covering sanctions exposure, PEP involvement, and compliance standards; and conducting a rapid assessment of Syria's economic governance environment, mapping key institutions and producing donor-facing strategic recommendations. He has also coordinated a flagship monthly political-economy publication for the German Stabilisation Platform and delivered research analyst support to UNICEF and UNDP on socio-economic monitoring and conflict-tension mapping in Lebanon.

Fève holds a Master's in International & European Studies (Euro-Mediterranean specialization) and a Bachelor's in Applied Foreign Languages for International Business, both from Aix-Marseille University, and completed intensive Arabic training (C1) at the Institut Français du Proche-Orient. He is a native French speaker, fluent in English and Arabic (Levantine/Classical), with intermediate Turkish, and has published extensively on Syria's sanctions regime, banking sector, and political economy in outlets including Foreign Affairs, Limes, and the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung.
