I am an environmental engineering and management consultant with more than 25 years of experience. I am certified as an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Solid Waste Management (SWM) Consultant by the Egyptian Ministry of Environment. I have carried out Environmental and Social Impact Assessment Studies for a number of mega projects in Egypt such as Cairo Metro Lines 4 and 6, Cairo Alexandria Freeway, 10^th of Ramadan Light Rail Train and Cairo Monorails according to the Egyptian regulations as well as international standards. I have also prepared ESIA studies for a variety of sectors including industry projects, mining, oil and gas, waste management as well as infrastructure projects.  I have acted as an Expert in Environmental Safeguards as part of the technical assistance provided to the newly established Investment Unit in the Ministry of Transport and trained their staff on the application of the International Environmental and Social Safeguards.  I am also currently assisting the Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency (EEAA) in updating its national EIA 2009 Guidelines to reflect the recent national regulatory framework as well as the international requirements.

I was a member of the Board of Directors of the National Waste Management Regulatory Agency (WMRA), Ministry of Environment. I have also contributed to the formulation of a number of National Strategies such as National Agricultural Waste Management Strategy, National Framework of Low Emission Development Strategy for Egypt, and Integration of Industrial Energy Efficiency (IEE) Policy Recommendations into the Sectoral Policy Strategies.

I am registered in Egypt’s Roster of Experts in the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) as I have contributed to the preparation of the first Biennial Update Report (BUR) for Egypt through preparation of the greenhouse gases inventory resulting from industrial processes and have reviewed other developing countries BURs as part of a Team of Technical Experts. I have been appointed a member of Editorial Board of the Emission Factor Database (EFDB) for the Industrial Processes and Product Use (IPPU) sector by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).

I am also certified by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) as a national Energy Management Systems (EnMS) Expert. I have worked extensively with a number of energy intensive industries such as cement, ceramic, iron and steel and petrochemicals in planning and implementing energy management systems and energy efficiency measures in their industries. I also worked UNIDO on supporting the collection of data on industrial parks in Egypt to feed into the development of Eco-industrial Parks Project Document. I am also perform quantitative life cycle assessment studies and I have worked with UNIDO in  the first Product Environmental Footprint study in Egypt.

I am currently acting as a Pollution Abatement Key Expert as part of the Technical Assistance team of the Egyptian Pollution Abatement Program (EPAP III) to support to the PMU and industrial enterprises to improve sub-borrower performance and comply with environment regulations. I am providing support to the National Solid Waste Management Program (NSWMP) through working as a consultant for GIZ in a number of tasks supporting solid waste management activities. I was also appointed by USAID Economic Governance Activity to support the Ministry of Environment in drafting and validating the implementation plan of the Climate Change National Strategy: 2050.

I am also a Lecturer in the Professional Engineering Program at AUC and the MSc. Program in Engineering at Ain Shams University teaching in the field of environmental impact assessment, environmental management, solid waste management, life cycle assessment, cleaner production, greenhouse gases and climate change and energy management systems.
