Dr. Samir Tantawi is a qualified climate change consultant with over 27 years of professional experience in climate change planning and strategizing, he has Ph.D., Master, and Diploma degrees in climate change vulnerability & adaptation assessment and modeling and a B.Sc. degree in Mathematics. Between 2002 and 2013 he worked for the Egyptian Ministry of Environment as a ‘Senior Climate Change Advisor’, and managed the Mitigation and Adaptation Depts. He has over 15 years of experience in climate change negotiations

He has extensive experience in climate change assessment and planning, developing strategies, and national reports, drafting and reviewing climate change-related plans, and assessment of stakeholders’ engagement from the Public and Private Sectors as well as NGOs. He has over 12 years of experience in the assessment needs of capacity building, technology, and financial

He has experience in working with national, regional, and international climate change financing and implementing entities (e.g., UNDP, UNEP, GEF, Union for the Mediterranean, The World Bank, AfDB, League of Arab State -LAS, Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia - ESCWA, Centre for Environment & Development for the Arab Region and Europe – CEDARE)

He has local and international experience in developing and reviewing climate change-related project proposals. He has contributed as a consultant in local, regional, and international climate change studies funded by Egypt Government, the EU, AFD, the Islamic Development Bank, and others

Since 2013 he has worked as a Project Manager of UNDP Projects. He has supervised the development of climate change strategies, plans, and reports, including National Communications, Biennial Update Reports, Low Emission Development Strategies, National Climate Change Strategies, Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions, Mitigation Action Plans, and Nationally Determined Contributions

Since 2009, he is a Lead Reviewer with UNFCCC, he has contributed to reviewing more than 50 international climate change reports and assessment of about 25 mitigation and adaptation projects and plans. Since 2017, he is a Lad Author with IPCC.

He has good experience in developing Green Climate Fund project proposals. He has over 20 years of experience in working with climate change financing and implementing entities

Dr. Tantawi has been selected by the Supervisory Body (SB) ' belonging to the UNFCCC' to be included in the Article 6.4 mechanism Roster of experts as a “Methodologies” and “Climate policy” Expert, for the period of two years from 10 March 2023
