Ismail Dabanli

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ismail Dabanli is a water resources and climate-change specialist with 14+ years of academic and applied experience in hydrology, drought/flood risk assessment, hydroclimatological trend analysis, and climate-change impact studies. He earned his MSc+PhD in Hydraulics and Water Resources Engineering from Istanbul Technical University (GPA 3.83/4.00) and has served as faculty at ITU and Istanbul Medipol University, including a visiting scholar position at Clemson University (USA).

Key qualifications include: (i) advanced expertise in drought analysis, precipitation/temperature trend assessment, and climate projections/statistical downscaling; (ii) strong peer‑reviewed publication record in leading journals (including a Nature paper on Mediterranean precipitation variability and multiple Q1 articles in hydrology/climate fields); (iii) leadership and coordination of multi‑stakeholder national projects, including Türkiye’s greenhouse-gas/NDC capacity-building program with several ministries, and research projects on long‑term drought trends and UNESCO cultural heritage climate impacts; (iv) recognized scientific standing through an official nomination as an IPCC AR6 Lead Author by the Republic of Türkiye; (v) proven teaching and supervision experience at undergraduate and graduate levels (hydraulics, hydrology, droughts/floods, water resources systems), with completed and ongoing MSc/PhD theses.

He also provides sustainability training/consultancy (ISO 14064, verification, and CBAM) and applies a broad technical toolkit (MATLAB, ArcGIS, WMS, Global Mapper, AutoCAD and related modeling/analysis software). Fluent in advanced English (spoken/written).
