Seham Ghalwash
About
I am an entrepreneurship, sustainability, and policy specialist with a strong track record in consulting, ecosystem development, and applied research across Egypt, the MENA region, and Africa. Alongside my academic role at the American University in Cairo (AUC), I have served as a Lead or Senior Consultant on projects commissioned by UNDP, ESCWA, GIZ, EVPA, Hivos, and the Union for the Mediterranean, among others. My consulting work has focused on entrepreneurship ecosystems, impact investing, women’s entrepreneurship, social innovation, sustainable development, and inclusive growth, with a particular emphasis on translating research into practical recommendations for policy and action.
A core part of my profile is advising and contributing to policy-relevant, multi-stakeholder initiatives. I am currently engaged in a DANIDA-supported project on Egypt’s large-scale energy storage strategy, developed in collaboration with AUC’s School of Engineering, where I contribute to work on policy coordination, stakeholder engagement, and market readiness. I also organized and led a high-level expert workshop on the roadmap for sustainable large-scale energy storage in Egypt, bringing together academia, industry, regulators, and development partners.
I also serve as Principal Author of the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) Egypt reports, among the most recognized global benchmarks for entrepreneurship. In this role, I lead applied research and reporting that informs policymakers, development partners, and ecosystem stakeholders on entrepreneurial trends, regional disparities, and opportunities for ecosystem strengthening. Most recently, I led both the GEM Egypt 2025 National Report and a special regional report covering all 27 governorates, expanding entrepreneurship analysis and policy insight beyond the national level.
In parallel, I work across international collaboration and entrepreneurship support. I collaborate with DTU in Denmark on sustainability and innovation initiatives, including challenge-based learning and youth innovation programming, and I mentor entrepreneurs through AUC Venture Lab’s sustainability track. These roles complement my consulting work by connecting policy, education, venture support, and ecosystem practice.
I bring a profile that combines strategic consulting, policy engagement, ecosystem analysis, stakeholder coordination, and entrepreneurship support, with deep contextual knowledge of emerging markets and a strong commitment to advancing inclusive and sustainable innovation.
