- Every human being has the right to receive comprehensive health care and to live in dignity until the last day of his life.
- The process of dying is part of the life cycle. Thus, terminally ill patients should not suffer from social seclusion nor any forms of marginalization.
Strategic Objective
- Alleviate the suffering and improve the quality of life for patients and families dealing with any terminal illness.
- Provide Hospice highest quality standards and with no charge.
- Improve accessibility for Hospice care to all terminal patients in all governorates.
Josaab’s Services Delivery Approaches
Hospice Egypt hosts three approaches to serve terminally ill patients with the best care possible, which are:
- Medical, social psychological and financial needs assessment of the patients and their family members.
- The provision of financial support through micro-credits loans to be utilized for the establishment of revenue-generating micro-projects.
- Medical treatments and interventions such as the provision of protocol-based medications, medical facilitating equipment, nursing needs among others.
- The fulfillment of the patients’ last wishes. These could range from having the patient eat their certain favorable foods or to furnish their children’s own apartments in order to prepare them for marriage. Hospice Egypt believes that life is not measured by days but by wishes and ambitions.
In order not to leave any one behind and to reach those mostly in need, Hospice Egypt has approached different universities across Egypt to recruit more volunteers to serve and link those in need with Hospice Egypt to be enlisted for its services. In addition, they have hired community leaders to increase outreach to those in remote areas as well as to facilitate provision of care services

Volunteers: The Heart of Hospice
Hospice Egypt’s staff are trained to sensitively communicate and address the message to the patients and their families per international best practices and by professional trainers from Germany. These trainers trained staff members on how to effectively convey certain information about the patient’s health status and the time required to take care of them in simple and direct manners without any false promises or false hopes. They are also trained on how to help family members deal with fear, worries, and sense of guilt that they usually face due to the emotional trauma they are facing.
On regular basis, Josaab’s Hospice Egypt provides its staff members, nurses and volunteers with training and support services that help them cope with the difficulties that their job entails. This is done through:
- Providing psychological sessions that would provide individuals with the space to express and release their psychological burden.
- Implementing group support sessions with specialized psychiatrics and supervisors on how to deal with patients with due diligence and compassion without having to risk their mental and emotional wellbeing.
- Offering weekly meetings to exchange experience in dealing with cases, share difficulties and successes that Josaab encounters.
Financial Sustainability
To achieve Hospice Egypt ‘s mission in providing quality of care to terminally ill patients and to sustain the free of charge hospice services, Hospice Egypt team developed different financial strategies and used different financial channels to raise funds that could cover the patients’ needs.
