At just 24, Ibrahim Shaheen from Irbid, Jordan, proved how determination and access to the right opportunities can change lives. His journey from a university student to a Software Development Engineer at Amazon reflects the potential of Jordan’s youth when given quality training and digital skills support.

In a country where youth unemployment remains high, Ibrahim knew that his degree alone would not guarantee a job. In 2023, he joined DOT Jordan’s Full Stack Web Developer program, supported by UNICEF’s Digital Skills for a Better Future initiative, to gain the practical experience employers demand. “The training was hands-on and helped me think like a developer,” he says. “It gave me the tools to move from theory to real-world problem-solving.”

Wanting to go even further, he enrolled in the AWS re/Start program, also delivered by DOT Jordan, which provides Jordanian youth with in-demand cloud computing skills. “It was a game-changer,” Ibrahim recalls. “It taught me discipline, teamwork, and technical confidence.” The program’s focus on employability gave him the competitive edge he needed to enter the global job market.

After completing his training in April 2024 and graduating from university that June, Ibrahim began applying for jobs online. When he saw an opening at Amazon, he took a bold chance—and succeeded. Despite the experience requirements, his strong foundation from DOT Jordan helped him pass the technical interviews. In July 2024, he officially started at Amazon, proving that Jordan’s young talent can thrive anywhere when equipped with the right digital skills and mindset.
